Woodlawn Museum welcomes the Journey to Freedom statue

Come join Montgomery Parks and Woodlawn Museum in welcoming the arrival of the Journey to Freedom statue by artist Wesley Wofford at the “Welcome to MoCo Party!”

The nine-foot-tall, 2,200-pound bronze sculpture of Harriet Tubman depicts the legendary self-liberator as she guides a child to freedom on the perilous Underground Railroad.

This is the first stop in Maryland for the statue that will accompany Montgomery County historian Tony Cohen on his #FreedomWalk2026. This historic 750-mile Underground Railroad pilgrimage will take place this May to July.

Please note that this is a rain or shine outdoor event, and the manor house and museum will be closed.

Light refreshments will be served.
