Event Details

Save the trees and protect the Little Falls Stream Valley

Join Weed Warrior Supervisor Celia for a non-native, invasive plant removal workday in Little Falls Stream Valley Unit 1. We will meet at the park entrance at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Little Falls Parkway in Bethesda, MD. (Park in the gravel parking lot across from the entrance, at the intersection of Little Falls Parkway and Massachusetts Avenue. Walk across the street to meet at the Park entrance).

We will focus on non-native, invasive vines, especially English ivy (Hedera helix) and porcelainberry (Ampelopsis glandulosa var. brevipedunculata) that are climbing on mature trees.  Native Virginia creeper and poison ivy are also present and beneficial, so we will avoid those.

Click here for more information on the Little Falls Watershed Alliance’s (LFWA) website.

Weather policy: We usually hold Weed Warrior Workdays as long as there is not pouring rain or deep snow. However, if the weather is deemed dangerous for outdoor activities, we will cancel. Cancellation will be posted on the LFWA website one hour before the event start time.

Please wear long pants that cover your ankles, long sleeves, and sturdy, closed-toed shoes. Bring gloves, pruners, flathead screwdrivers, small folding hand saws, and/or loppers if you have them. Gloves and tools are available to borrow if you don’t have your own. No power tools or machetes allowed. Please bring water to drink. Please note: Court Ordered Volunteer Hours can’t be granted through this workday.

This event is capped at 10 Montgomery Parks volunteers.

This workday is pre-approved for MCPS SSL hours. Volunteers under 16 are not permitted to use sharp tools (including pruners or loppers), so if you are under 16, you will help rip plants out of the ground, pry vines off trees with a flathead screwdriver, and make debris piles.  Volunteers 14 and under must be accompanied by a pre-registered, responsible adult.

All volunteers must register online: Click here to register for the event
