Save the trees and protect the Sligo Creek watershed
Join Weed Warrior Supervisor Alexander for a non-native, invasive plant removal workday at Bullis Local Park in Silver Spring. Plan to meet at the bleachers on Easley Street.
We will focus on non-native, invasive vines, including porcelainberry (Ampelopsis glandulosa var. brevipedunculata), wintercreeper (Euonymus fortunei), and English ivy (Hedera helix). Native Virginia creeper and poison ivy are also present and beneficial, so we will avoid those.
Please wear long pants that cover your ankles, long sleeves, and sturdy, closed-toed shoes. Bring gloves, pruners, small folding hand saws and/or loppers if you have them. Gloves and tools are available to borrow if you don’t have your own. No power tools or machetes allowed. Please bring water to drink. Please note: Court Ordered Volunteer Hours can’t be granted through this workday.
This event is capped at 25 people.
This workday is pre-approved for MCPS SSL hours. Volunteers under 16 are not permitted to use tools (including pruners or loppers), so if you are under 16, you will help rip plants out of the ground and make debris piles. Volunteers 14 and under must be accompanied by a pre-registered, responsible adult.
