Come learn about Montgomery County in the Reconstruction Era at Oakley Cabin African American Museum and Park. This series introduces children ages 9-14 to the people who lived at Oakley in the 1870s through hands-on activities, stories, and more!
The washerwomen of Oakley Cabin did far more than just toss clothes in a machine and wait for them to be clean! In this program, kids will learn about the washerwomen who called Oakley home while fetching water from the creek, scouring clothes on washboards, and learning the math and chemistry behind 19th century laundry detergents. Children will have fun while gaining an appreciation for the hard work that built Montgomery County.
