Homeschool History: Apothecary and Herbal Medicine

Step back in time and experience the past in a truly immersive way with Homeschool History at the Farm Park. This program series combines historical learning with practical, hands-on activities that bring history to life. Each class will cover a different theme from the Farm Park’s history, in which students will gain a deeper understanding of historical practices by actively engaging with the tools and techniques used in day-to-day life. Your child will leave with a richer understanding of history—and a greater appreciation for the simple joys of farm life. This Fall, children will get to enjoy a whole new set of historical themes, so be on the lookout for when they’re announced!

Apothecary and Herbal Medicine takes students on a fascinating journey into the history of medicine and the ways people once used plants, herbs, and natural remedies to care for themselves and their communities. Students will explore the role of the apothecary, discover how herbs and plants were gathered, prepared, and used throughout history, and learn about the knowledge and traditions that shaped early medicine. Through hands-on activities and historical exploration, kids will experience what it was like to step into the world of an old-fashioned apothecary while gaining a greater appreciation for how people in the past understood health, healing, and the natural world.

This is a drop off program, but parents are welcome to hang around the Farm Park during the class. Please be sure to dress for the weather and bring water.
