Discover the joy of creating with Hands-On History! In this dynamic program, kids will dive into the skills and crafts of the past as they explore a variety of traditional hands-on activities. From wood carving and leather working to paper making, basket weaving and more, each session offers a new opportunity for young crafters to learn, create and connect with history in a tangible way. Guided by engaging instructors, participants will gain confidence as they work with real tools and materials – experiencing firsthand how everyday items were crafted long before modern technology. Each session brings a fresh project and a chance to explore a different historical technique.
Join us as we jump back to a time when messages were crafted by hand and words were brought to life through ink and paper! Kids will explore the fascinating history of letter writing, calligraphy, and the printing press, discovering how people shared ideas, stories, and special messages before modern technology. Students will learn the art of beautiful calligraphy, work together to create a printing press, and use hands-on printing techniques inspired by the early printing press to create their own cards. Through creativity, craftsmanship, and a little ink-covered fun, students will experience how people once turned simple words and images into something worth sharing!
This is a drop-off program, but parents are welcome to hang around the Farm Park during the class. Please remember to bring water and dress for the activity – some may get messy!
