Adaptive Mountain Biking Roots-to-Rocks Group Ride

Returning riders seeking to build skills and confidence on adaptive mountain bikes while improving physical fitness in a group ride setting are welcome to join our Adaptive Mountain Biking Roots-to-Rocks Group Ride, part of Montgomery Parks’ Roots-to-Rocks mountain biking program. This family-friendly, “party pace” ride is designed to support continued skill development while providing opportunities to access the outdoors in a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all participants. Riders will be accompanied by volunteer support riders to ensure a positive experience on rides averaging 5 miles. Participants can sign up to ride our Lasher Recumbent Handcycle or TerraTrike Recumbent Foot-Pedal Trike, depending on which bike best fits their needs. Bike assignments are based on availability on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is required.

-Lasher Recumbent Handcycle: An all-terrain handcycle designed for comfort and control, featuring adjustable seat settings, hand-operated braking, steering, and propulsion, with power assist for challenging terrain. This bike is suitable for riders with grip strength to use a hand brake, and transfers require some lower limb flexibility. The riding position is seated, recumbent, and low, offering a stable and enjoyable ride for all skill levels.

-TerraTrike All Terrain with Power Assist: A foot-pedaled recumbent bike designed for trail riding in a seated position. It features a wide range of gears and power assist to handle hills, with a wide track for added balance. This bike is suitable for riders who can pedal but require the stability and seating position of a recumbent trike. Grip strength is needed to operate the brakes.

We have a limited number of adaptive bikes, and we want to provide the opportunity for as many participants as possible to enjoy our Roots to Rocks AMTB Group Rides. To help us welcome more riders throughout the season, each participant who will be borrowing an adaptive bike may register for one Roots to Rocks Group Ride per season. Participants riding their own bike may register for multiple rides throughout the season.

Please register for the ride date you would like to attend. If you are interested in additional ride dates, you may request to be added to the waitlist by emailing Amanda.Espinoza@montgomeryparks.org. If space becomes available, we will contact participants on the waitlist.

This program does not include a lesson. Participants interested in this program should have foundational mountain biking skills prior to registering.
