Meadowside Nature Center Summer Camps

Hello! Today I am going to camp at Meadowside Nature Center!

I packed my bag with everything I need. I have water, close-toed shoes, clothes that can get dirty, and a snack.

There are two ways to enter the nature center. I can climb the steps in the front, or I can use the sidewalk without steps.

This is the door where I will say  goodbye to the person who drove me here.

I wonder what the inside of the  nature center might look like after these doors.

When I walk in the front doors on the left, I will see a big hallway.

On my right will be the bathroom and water fountain. There is one bathroom for boys and one for girls

A picture of the outisde of the bathrooms with a water fountain in between the two

This is where I will wash my hands when I’m done using the bathroom.

The hand dryer can be loud, and it might startle me. That’s ok, I can stay calm.

There are paper towels that I can use instead. There is a sign on the hand dryer to remind me that it is loud

The toilet is also loud and will flush by itself. Sometimes this makes going to the bathroom uncomfortable

There is a sign that lets me know to use a sticky note and cover up the black handle of the toilet. It will stop the toilet from flushing until I am ready.

Just down the hall is single stall restroom too.

When I leave the bathroom, I will see this long hallway. My classroom is down this hallway. There are other rooms down this hallway. I won’t go into these other rooms.

After I get checked in, I will walk to my classroom.

I will meet new people. I might be shy at first, and that is ok.  It is ok to be unsure of my feelings. It is important to know that the people are nice and that I am well cared for at Meadowside.

There is a place where I can play with toys, read a book, or relax until I meet my teachers.

Camp will be inside and outside the nature center. I will walk out these new doors to the raptor deck.

This is the Raptor Deck

There are large birds in cages that are close to the deck. We don’t call them “cages” at Meadowside, we call them mews

They sometimes make loud sounds, hop around and flap their wings. They are nice birds.

Five seperate pictures of the birds that live at meadowside; two hawks, two owls, and turkey

I might meet a few birds of prey. These are the five that live permanently at Meadowside.

I might also meet a reptile and/or amphibian.

3 separate pictures of a turtle sitting on a rock outside, a toad in a water bowl, and a black snake being held by someone

When I go outside, I will see lots of new places around Meadowside. This place is called the Nature Play Space. I’ll be able to play with my new friends here.

If I feel like I need a break, I can sit and read a book, play with some toys, or rest on a bean bag chair. We will take many breaks during the day, eat lunch, and even have snack

I might also do some hiking during this program. I’d like to look at a trail map first.

I might also want to look at a map of the inside of the nature center.
