Locust Grove Nature Center Half Day Camp

The welcome sign for Locust Grove Nature Center.

Hello!

Today I am going to camp at Locust Grove Nature Center!

I have packed my bag with everything I need. I have:

Digital drawing of a blue reusable water bottle with black top

A water bottle

Digital drawing of white and green sneakers

Close-toed shoes

A graphic of a stick figure trying on a jacket and a t-shirt shorts and pants drawn next to it

Clothes that can get dirty

A digital drawing of a peanut with a red circle and line through it

A nut free lunch

Sunscreen

When I get to camp, I walk across the bridge and down the path.

My adult checks me in at the front table, making sure I have everything I need.

When I come inside, I can choose a cubby to put my bag in. Then I get a name tag.

This is a good time for me to go to the bathroom, too.

Next, it’s time to play outside in the Nature Exploration Area! I go with a counselor out the back door and through the gate.

There is so much to do here! I can play in the mud kitchen, climb the beehive, and more.

Program room with a pole in the middle decorated like a tree with branches. Circular seating wrapped around the pole and animal enclosures and a tv to the left of the room with windows and more seating to the right

If the weather isn’t good for going outside, we will play in the Program Room.

Once everyone is here, we have a morning meeting at the fire pit. We say hello, learn the rules, and hear the plan for the day.

Each day of camp, we have different fun activities! Here are some of the things I may do:

Go for hikes and search for animals

Collect and release insects

Brown and orange box turtle looking up at camera

Meet an animal at the nature center

Visit the sycamore tree

Children sandbox play area surrounded by three wooden benches

Dig for dinosaur fossils

Explore the creek

After all our adventures for the day, we return to the Nature Exploration Area to play.

Camp Expectations

When I’m at camp, I will make sure to:

Follow directions so I stay safe

Stay with a counselor or group at all times

Leave nature where I find it. We only touch what a counselor says is safe, and we put everything back

Stay on the trails. To help us stay safe, we need to, “Look down, stay on the brown!”

Have a fun and safe week at camp!
