Current Program Highlights

Check out the variety of fall programs we offer at the nature center.

Full Moon Friday

Join us for the magic of the full moon for a hike and campfire on each Friday nearest to the full moon. Feel free to bring your own hotdogs to warm over the fire and we’ll provide marshmallows. The program will be mainly outdoors with a hiking component. All hikes will be on natural surface trails.Trails steepness varies and some trails will only be accessible with stairs. Inclement weather will cancel this program. All attendees must register.

Wildflower Walks

Fall is a rainbow of wildflowers, from goldenrods to asters in every shade of purple. Take a leisurely stroll through the park with our Master Naturalists who will interpret this last spectacular show of color before the changing of the seasons. Now a three part series, you may join us for one class or sign up for all three to watch the season unfold before your eyes. Participants should be able to walk on natural surface trails, which may have some steep inclines. Inclement weather will cancel this program.

Morning Tweets and Tea

Do you have an interest in birding? Then join us for a morning of bird watching at Cabin John Regional Park. Enjoy a cup of freshly brewed tea from our tea station as you learn beginner birding techniques, or bring a thermos of your favorite breakfast beverage. Bring your own pair of binoculars or borrow a pair from the nature center, we will show you how to use them. Inclement weather will cancel this program.

Register for Classes & Programs

Registration is required for all program attendees who fall within the program’s age range. This includes adults. All children must be accompanied by an adult unless noted otherwise.

Cancellation Information

Locust Grove follows Montgomery County Public Schools guidance for weather-related closings. If schools are closed, nature center programs that day are canceled. If schools open late, morning programs are canceled, and afternoon programs will be held as scheduled. If schools close early, programs starting after school closing will be canceled. When in doubt, call the nature center or check our Facebook page.

How to register

Each program needs a minimum number of participants. All programs will have a 48hr registration cutoff.

You will need to register through ActiveMONTGOMERY for classes and programs. This system allows you to register for classes and programs hosted by both Montgomery Parks and Montgomery County Recreation!

  2. Create an account at ActiveMONTGOMERY
  3. You will receive a welcome email confirming your account.
  4. Click on the confirmation link included in the message to complete the registration process.
  5. Now you are ready to register for programs at Montgomery Parks
