Wheaton, Md. – Montgomery Parks will celebrate the department’s first 18-hole disc golf course on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 4 – 6 p.m. at Northwest Branch Recreational Park at 1313 Bonifant Road, Colesville, Md., 20905. The celebration will feature a brief speaking program followed by demonstrations and tutorials. Disc golf, a rapidly expanding sport, is simple to play and draws people of all ages and abilities.
“This new disc golf course expands the ways people of all ages and skill levels can get outside, be active, and connect,” said Miti Figueredo, director of Montgomery Parks. “As our first 18-hole course, it reflects input from disc golf players, and we hope it will encourage more people to participate in this sport.”
“Disc golf is easy to learn, fun for all ages, and a great way to enjoy the outdoors,” said Evan Dintaman, Montgomery Parks project manager. “If you can throw a frisbee, you can play disc golf.”
Andrew Fish designed the newly opened course.
“As a professional player and course designer, I was thrilled with Montgomery Parks’ responsiveness to the local disc golf community’s requests for a course,” said Fish. “Northwest Branch Recreational Park provides a fabulous and secluded setting for open and wooded disc golf holes, and we created multiple layouts to be accessible for multiple skill and experience levels and make the course distinct from others in the region.”
The new shaded plaza pavilion with picnic tables, seating, and bike racks was completed this month. The course opened last November. There are also portable restrooms and a drinking fountain.
