WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks invites families to experience the wonders of nature during Children’s Day at Brookside Gardens on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sponsored by the Friends of Brookside Gardens, the free annual event offers hands-on activities and live entertainment designed to inspire children and their families.

Children’s Day encourages young visitors to discover the science and art of gardening through engaging activities and interactive stations. Participants can explore garden science and wildlife, create arts and crafts projects, and while supplies last, pot a plant to take home.
The event will also feature family-friendly yoga sessions, a visit with children’s author Joan Waites, and live entertainment throughout the day. Marsha of Marsha and the Positrons will perform in the morning, followed by an afternoon puppet show presented by The Puppet Co. of Glen Echo.
“During Children’s Day, kids and families can explore and learn together in a beautiful garden setting,” said Stephanie Oberle, director of Brookside Gardens. “We hope these fun activities spark curiosity and a lifelong appreciation for nature.”
Families are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in designated areas during the event. No food or beverages will be on sale at the event.
