Discover the joy of creating with Hands-On History! In this dynamic program, kids will dive into the skills and crafts of the past as they explore a variety of traditional hands-on activities. From wood carving and leather working to paper making, basket weaving and more, each session offers a new opportunity for young crafters to learn, create and connect with history in a tangible way. Guided by engaging instructors, participants will gain confidence as they work with real tools and materials – experiencing firsthand how everyday items were crafted long before modern technology. Each session brings a fresh project and a chance to explore a different historical technique.
Discover how people personalized and repaired their clothing long before the days of fast fashion and sewing machines! In this hands-on history workshop, participants will step back into the 18th and 19th centuries to explore the essential art of textile decoration. Young historians will learn how early Americans made and used colorful threads, needles, and a variety of unique stitches to create beautiful designs and tell visual stories. Kids will learn how wool is spun into thread, before practicing their own stitching by creating a personalized embroidered keepsake to take home. It’s a wonderful way to experience a relaxing, traditional craft while connecting with history in a creative way!
This is a drop-off program, but parents are welcome to hang around the Farm Park during the class. Please remember to bring water and dress for the activity – some may get messy!
