Guided Archaeology Tour: Hike through History: Oakley Cabin and Newlin's Mill

Lace up your boots for a hike through history! Join Parks Senior Archaeologist, Erin Cagney, and Cultural Resources Programs Manager, Diana Klein, for a guided archaeology and history hike from Oakley Cabin to Newlin’s Mill and back. You’ll learn about the archaeological excavations at both sites, what the archaeology can tell us about the people who lived and worked here, and how it all ties into the history of Brookeville, which was established in 1794.

The hike will begin at Oakley Cabin African American Museum and Park and continue approximately 0.5 miles along a natural surface trail to Newlin’s Mill before returning to Oakley Cabin. The trail contains inclines and declines, and is not ADA or stroller accessible. Entering the cabin requires climbing several steps and is not ADA accessible. There is a portable commode available at Oakley Cabin for use before or after the hike
