New and experienced bird watchers flock together for Birdability Week in Montgomery Parks 

WHEATON, Md. –Montgomery Parks invites bird enthusiasts of all experience levels to join in celebrating Birdability Week, a nationwide initiative that highlights the joy of birdwatching while emphasizing that nature is for all, regardless of ability or background. From nature book discussions to raptor encounters, the week offers engaging programs for all ages and abilities. 

Birdability Week Activities: 

55+ Nature Book Club 
Tuesday, October 21, 2025 
6 to 7:30 p.m. 
Sligo-Dennis Local Park Activity Building | 10211 Sligo Creek Parkway, Silver Spring  
Explore nature-themed literature with fellow readers. This session features a discussion of The Backyard Bird Chronicles by Amy Tan. Free. Book Club Registration required.  

Big Sit and Bird 
Thursday, October 23, 2025 
9 to 10 a.m. 
Locust Grove Nature Center | 7777 Democracy Blvd, Bethesda 
Relax on the back deck with a naturalist and observe birds as they visit feeders. All skill levels are welcome. Bring a warm breakfast beverage to enjoy. Free. Big Sit and Bird registration required. 
 

Meadowside Raptors 
Friday, October 24, 2025 
5:30 to 6:30 p.m. 
Meadowside Nature Center | 5100 Meadowside Lane, Rockville 
Meet the raptor ambassadors of Meadowside Nature Center and learn about their care routines and life stories from a park naturalist. Fee: $15. Meadowside Raptors registration required. 

Bird Nerd Night 
Saturday, October 25, 2025 
4:30 to 6:30 p.m. 
Locust Grove Nature Center | 7777 Democracy Blvd, Bethesda 
Enjoy bird-themed activities, including a round of the Wingspan board game, nature journaling on the back deck as birds flock to the feeders, or an optional sunset birding walk. Free. Bird Nerd Night registration required. 

Birdability Week Celebration! 
Sunday, October 26, 2025 
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. 
Wheaton Claridge Local Park | 11901 Claridge Road, Wheaton 
Celebrate Birdability Week with a day of accessible birding fun. Try birding apps, join a guided walk or enjoy crafts, puzzles and sensory-friendly activities.  The event is free and open to the public. Presented in partnership with Readability, Nature Forward, DC Bird Alliance, Montgomery Bird Club and Feminist Bird Club.
