Turn over a new leaf this fall with Montgomery Parks Academy Series classes

Yoga, Pilates, dance, and STEM classes offer a fall reset

WHEATON, Md. –  Montgomery Parks is bringing fitness-club style classes to neighborhood parks through its Park Academy Series starting in September. Registration is now open for classes designed to help participants make a fresh start this fall by moving, creating, and reconnecting with healthy habits.

The Park Academy series includes eight different kinds of yoga classes, including yoga for toddlers, runners, and adults 55 and older. There are also Pilates classes, STEM classes for youth, and tree climbing for teens and adults 55 and older. 

“Fall is a great time to reset and get ready for cooler weather, shorter days, and back to school,” said Megan DeMillo, special events supervisor at Montgomery Parks.“We are thrilled to offer a full slate of classes that appeal to all ages, and people can attend right in their neighborhood parks.”

Park Academy Highlights:

Canopy Connection

Canopy Connection participants in trees

A tree climbing course for teens or adults 55+.  Montgomery Parks foresters teach the basics of knot-tying, safety equipment, and safe climbing before participants take to the trees.

Power-Up: An Introduction to Power and Energy

Students ages 10 – 13 discover the world of renewable energy through fun, hands-on experiments. They will leave the program with new knowledge, creative ideas, and a mini solar project to take home.

Pound Fitness:

Unleash your inner rockstar with this drumming-inspired cardio workout. Performing Pilates-based movements and using lightly weighted drumsticks, participants rock the day’s stress away.

Introduction to Partnering Dance 101

Come dance in the park!  Bring a partner or come on your own to learn various partner dances.  All experience levels welcome to learn the swing, cha-cha, or salsa. A fun date night, fitness activity, or social activity.
