Project Background and Description
Strathmore Local Park is located at 3210 Beaverwood Road in the Aspen Hill area and consists of approximately 13 acres. Currently, the park includes a rectangular sports field, a playground, two tennis courts and a picnic shelter. This renovation project proposes to renovate a large part of the park to include an onsite parking lot, a loop path, a soccer court and basketball court (to replace the existing tennis courts), a new playground, improved soccer field, accessibility upgrades, additional park improvements, and stormwater management.
Status/Project Update
Parks staff met with the community in the Spring of 2021 and developed an initial concept plan. The concept plan was further enhanced and presented to the public via the Open Town Hall forum in November/December 2021 for additional input and comment. Currently, the project is expected to begin construction in the fall of 2023 and be completed in spring of 2024. Updates will be provided once a construction start date is determined. The entire park will be closed during renovations.
