Summer Shady Hikes offer perfect introduction to hiking for beginners.

WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks is offering a series of Summer Shady Hikes to help people stay active in July and August, despite the heat.

Each one-hour hike ventures through a shady trail in a different park. The hikes are an excellent way to get comfortable with the trails, get in some physical movement, and learn something new.

Montgomery Parks Nature on Wheels mobile nature center will be on hand to provide seating, water and a bathroom accessible via stairs. A park naturalist will lead the hike and teach guests about the plants and animals that call the park home.

“Whether you’re an experienced hiker or new to the activity, these summer evening hikes are a great opportunity for people to escape the heat and explore some of our beautiful, shaded trails,” said Nature on Wheels facilitator Alexandra Ralph. “And having the Nature on Wheels van there makes the hiking experience accessible to a wider range of people.”

Summer Shady Hikes all take place from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and are planned at four different locations in Montgomery County.

Thursday, July 20, 2023 | Wheaton Regional Park | 2000 Shorefield Road, Wheaton

Tuesday, August 1, 2023 | Matthew Henson State Park | 13421 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring
