WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks will launch a new street festival this spring on Sligo Creek Parkway between Dennis Avenue and University Boulevard.

The street festival will feature live music on two stages. The 90’s cover band Uncle Jesse and rock group Capital Effect will perform on the main stage. For the kids, Marsha and the Positrons will put on an interactive concert and Groovy Nate will delight with music and comedy. Local community groups will offer hands-on activities and roving entertainers including hula hoopers and stilt walkers will also perform. Food and drinks from area vendors will be available for purchase.

“Sligo Creek Parkway will be filled with music and fun activities for the whole family,” said Montgomery Parks Special Events Supervisor Megan DeMillo. “We encourage everyone to enjoy the Parkway and all the trails that lead to the area by walking or biking to the festival and make a day of it.”

Sligo Creek Parkway runs parallel to Sligo Creek and the Sligo Creek Trail. The 10.2-mile hard surface trail is one of the oldest and most used in the county, with numerous paved and unpaved side trails connecting to nearby parks, schools, and neighborhoods.

Sligo Creek Fest takes place on the section of Sligo Creek Parkway that is in Montgomery Parks Open Parkways program. On weekends, the roadway is closed to vehicles so pedestrians and cyclists can use it for recreational activities. Sligo Open Parkways hours will be extended the weekend of Sligo Creek Fest, closing the roadway to vehicles Friday May 3rd at 5:00 a.m. instead of the usual 9:00 a.m.
