Parks, recreation, and open spaces are essential to the high quality of life for Montgomery County residents. The greatest challenge for the park and recreation system in Montgomery County is to equitably provide enough of the “right” parks and recreation in the “right” places for a growing population of residents and employees.
Parks and open spaces are needed now more than ever to serve the leisure needs of residents, many of whom do not have backyards. The focus of the 2017 PROS Plan is on providing equitably activated, central community spaces, while meeting recreational needs and protecting and managing natural and cultural resources for future generations.

A majority of the public input for the 2017 PROS Plan was based on a statistically valid survey, public meetings, an online survey, and meetings with advisory boards and focus groups. The timeline for this plan is shown in the Calendarar & Meeting Notes chart below.
Ideas and comments from the public were welcome throughout the planning process with numerous opportunities for input. The public record remained open until midnight on Thursday, June 1, 2017, through our Town Hall public comment survey and interactive map.
Public outreach included this project web page, public meetings, focus group meetings, media releases and email campaigns to individuals and registered Homeowner and Civic Associations. Notices and updates were communicated through the Commission E-newsletter, our social media channels on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #MoCo2017 and #FutureParks and via the Parks Department Media Center.
The Plan schedule and presentation materials are listed on the calendar below. You may also want to review all outreach from the Vision 2030 Strategic Plan including, surveys, public meeting notes, and focus group notes.
