Montgomery Parks Speaker Series to Showcase the September 11 National Memorial Trail

WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, invites the public to the May 2022 session of its Parks Speaker Series on the topic of the September 11th National Memorial Trail. The free session will take place online on May 24, 2022, from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.
In this session, David Brickley, founder and president emeritus of the September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance will discuss how the project became a reality. Over the course of two decades, Brickley worked tirelessly to create the 1,300-mile trail connecting the three September 11 sites. In October 2021 the trail was federally designated with legislation signed by President Joe Biden. The trail serves as a tribute to the fallen heroes who perished on September 11, 2001, and the many heroes who committed themselves to the response for their country.

About the Speaker
David Brickley is the founder and president emeritus of the September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance. He conceived the 9/11 Trail while serving as director of the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. Under his leadership from 1998 to 2002, the state was awarded the national gold medal award for the best-managed state park system in America. Brickley previously served as an elected member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1976 through 1998. He was the legislative sponsor, co-founder, and chairman of the Virginia Railway Express, Virginia’s commuter rail system, and authored legislation creating Leesylvania State Park.
