Montgomery Parks offers programs and events for 55 and older

WHEATON, Md. —  Montgomery Parks, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, announces spring programming and events for people 55 and older.  

Never Grow Up: Playdates for 55+ | April 5 and May 3 | 10 –11:30 a.m.

Come out and play! Hang out sipping tea or drinking coffee, playing games, sharing stories, laughing with friends old and new and enjoying the theme for that day’s event.

  • April 5: Exercise your green thumb and enjoy a succulent activity with a Montgomery Parks naturalist.
  • May 3: Enjoy a fun visit with PAL (People Animals Love) therapy dogs.

Registration recommended. Free.

YogaDance | April 18, May 2, May 9 | 10 –11:30 a.m.

YogaDance is a practice that incorporates the benefits of yoga with a touch of “forget your age” brain stimulation to turn back the clock physically and mentally. It is suitable for all experience and fitness levels. Registration required. $36 for all three sessions.

Cultivating Peace and Calm in Nature: Breathing with the Rhythm and Noticing | May 3, 10, 17 and 24 | 6 –7 a.m.

Meditation provides long-lasting positive benefits to the body, mind and spirit. Connect to the earth, quiet your mind and notice how your breathing matches with the many rhythms of nature. Each class will focus on a different aspect of meditation. Registration required. $9 per class.

Beginning Recreational Kayaking | May 9 | 10 a.m. –12 p.m.
Black Hill Visitors Center, 20930 Lake Ridge Drive, Boyds, MD 20841

Have fun learning the basics of kayaking on Little Seneca Lake. Participants must be able to swim. Registration required. $55.

Senior Fish & Sip | May 22 | 6 – 8 p.m.
Kings Local Park, 23715 Clarksburg Road, Clarksburg, MD 20871

Fish and sip locally crafted wine and beer at Kings Local Pond. The pond will be freshly stocked, and attendees are guaranteed a bite and a drink. Fishing equipment, bait and instruction will be available as needed. Catch and release only. The event includes one glass of wine or beer and snacks. Additional beverages will be available for purchase from Waredaca Brewing Company. Registration required. $15.

Kayak Tour | May 23 | 10 a.m. –12 p.m.

Kayakers on Little Seneca Lake.

Watch wildlife or just enjoy a peaceful paddle on this leisurely kayak tour of Little Seneca Lake. Adaptive equipment will be available to assist participants in getting in and out of the kayak. Registration required. $30.
