REGISTRATION CLOSED – Weed Warrior Workday at Kensington Cabin Local Park

Save the trees! Join Kate Lofgren, Weed Warrior Program Assistant, for a non-native, invasive plant removal workday at Mayor Jayne H. Plank Kensington Cabin Local Park in Kensington, MD. We will be focusing on non-native, invasive vines and shrubs, especially porcelainberry (Ampelopsis glandulosa var. brevipedunculata), English ivy (Hedera helix), and bush honeysuckle (mainly Lonicera maackii). We will meet in front of the cabin. The address is 10000 Kensington Parkway, but there is no dedicated parking lot. Please park on neighborhood streets and be mindful of our neighbors. 

Please wear long pants that cover your ankles, long sleeves, and sturdy, closed-toed shoes. Bring gloves, pruners, small folding hand saws and/or loppers if you have them. Gloves and tools are available to borrow if you don’t have your own. No power tools or machetes allowed. Please bring water to drink. Please note: Court Ordered Volunteer Hours can’t be granted through this workday.

This event is capped at 15 people.

This workday is pre-approved for MCPS SSL hours. Volunteers under 16 are not permitted to use tools, so if you are under 16, please email the Weed Warrior supervisor ahead of time to see whether they will have meaningful work for you to do. Volunteers 14 and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

If you or anyone in your household are sick, waiting for Covid test results, and/or have tested positive for Covid (regardless of vaccination status) you are not eligible to volunteer at this time.
