SSL Day Off – Volunteer Weed Warrior and Cleanup

It’s a No School Day! Earn SSL hours and come help us preserve Wheaton Claridge Local Park.

There are many non-native, invasive plants in our parks. These types of plants tend to take over an area quickly. They can threaten our native plant communities and the wildlife that depends on them. One group of volunteers of this event will assist with invasive vine removal from trees while the other group will focus on removing the trash and litter found throughout the park. Bags, gloves, and tools are provided.

Instructions for Weed Warrior project:
Help remove non-native, invasive Boston ivy from trees along the trail
Instruction and tools will be provided for invasive removal
Volunteers must be 16 and over to use tools
If you have these tools, bring them along: gloves, pruners, small folding hand-saws and/or loppers (tools will also be provided)
Must wear close-toed shoes, long sleeve shirts and long pants

Instructions for Cleanup:
Pick up trash and recyclables found around the park. This project is open to all ages! Must wear close-toed shoes, long pants recommended!
