Maryland Emancipation Day Guided Hike

Celebrate Maryland Emancipation Day by discovering the Underground Railroad! Join us to learn about the experience of nineteenth-century freedom seekers in Montgomery County and Maryland. Discover techniques used for navigation, eluding detection, and finding food & shelter as you hike our simulated experience trail. Free admission to Woodlawn Museum included. Intended for ages 7 and up.

Hikes last approx. 2 1/2 hours along 2 miles of natural surface wooded hiking trail. Begin/end at Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park. Participants should dress for the weather and wear shoes appropriate for a natural surface hiking trail. Heavy rain/thunderstorm or poor trail conditions cancels the program. Face coverings are required for unvaccinated individuals. The program starts promptly at 10 am.
