Decolonizing Your Garden – Native Plants from a Native Perspective

Learn from the unique perspective of an indigenous horticulturalist as he explores ecologically sound solutions for landscapes that employ native plants. Ken will share from a Native standpoint about traditional culinary, medicinal, and spiritual uses of North American flora. Learn about his successful efforts leading the Food is our Medicine project for the Seneca Nation of Indians, reintroducing indigenous foods to all ages from toddlers to seniors. Ken will bring Native traditions and wisdom together in an inspiring presentation to help you decolonize your garden and find natural solutions to the landscape challenges you face. Bio Ken is a passionate Indigenous horticulturist, a New York State Certified Nursery Landscape Professional (CNLP) and member of the Seneca Nation of Indians. As a National Certified Green Infrastructure Program (NGICP) Trainer, Ken has instructed the City of Buffalo Sewer Authority workers in Green Infrastructure and assisting in the Buffalo Rain Check 2.0 equitable infrastructure program. Ken has dedicated his life to growing, installing, teaching, and promoting the use of indigenous plants. He founded Sweet Grass Gardens in Ontario, North America’s first Native owned and operated indigenous plant nursery. Currently, Ken is the Grower at The English Gardener in Buffalo, NY, implementing the use of indigenous plants for residential landscapes.
